PTA to block SIM cards linked to deceased individuals
PTA to block SIM cards linked to deceased individuals; From June 30, 2025, all mobile SIMs linked to the identity cards of persons declared dead or whose CNIC has expired will be blocked. This step is being taken in full cooperation with the National Data Badge and Registration Authority. Mobile phones in Pakistan have been a major problem, especially those SIMs registered in the names of persons who are no longer in the world or whose National Identity Card has expired. They can be used in terrorism, fraud, and other illegal activities. In view of this threat, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has taken an important step.
The purpose of blocking these SIM cards is;
- to improve national security
- prevent fraud
- deception and blackmail

- Bring transparency to the digital system.

NADRA will provide PTA with an updated list every week, which will include the CNIC numbers of deceased persons.
- Role of telecom companies.
