5 Lakh Families to Benefit Apni Chhat Apna Ghar : The Punjab government has launched a major housing program called “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” to make the dream of housing a reality for the low-income group. The project aims to provide loans in easy installments to people who cannot afford to build their own homes.
Objective and Scope of the Scheme
The government aims to benefit at least 5 lakh families through this scheme by the end of 2028. These loans are specifically targeted at individuals who:
- Have a limited monthly income
- Have not previously benefited from any government housing scheme
- And do not own a personal home

Loan Amount and Repayment Facility
Under the “Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar” scheme, loans of Rs 10 lakh to Rs 15 lakh were initially being provided. Now the government is considering increasing this amount to Rs 20 lakh to take into account the increase in construction cost. The loan can be repaid in easy installments, the tenure of which can be from 10 to 20 years. The monthly installment has been kept so that even the common man can continue his repayments in a dignified manner.
Eligibility Criteria
To avail a loan under this scheme, you must meet the following conditions:
- Must be a permanent resident of Punjab.Must be the head of the family as per NADRA records.
- Must have a plot of up to 5 Marla in urban areas or up to 10 Marla in rural areas in Punjab.
- Must have a PMT score of 60 or less in NADRA’s National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER).
- Must not be a borrower of any bank or financial institution.
- Must not have benefited from any housing scheme in the past.
- Must not be involved in any crime or serious cases.
Registration Procedure
To apply for this scheme, you need to follow the following steps:
Online Registration:
- Go to acag.punjab.gov.pk.
- Click on the “Register” button.
- Enter your details:
- Name
- CNIC Number
- Mobile Number
- Email Address
- Password
- Click on “Submit”.
- Log in and provide your land ownership details.
- Upload the required documents:
- CNIC (Front and Back)
- Land ownership papers
- Apply and wait for verification.

Offline Registration:
If you do not have internet access, you can apply by visiting the Deputy Commissioner’s Office of your district. The officers there will guide you and help you complete the application.
Scheme Progress
So far, interest-free loans worth over Rs. 8.5 billion have been provided to more than 9,000 families. In addition, the construction of 5,000 houses has been completed, while 3,000 more houses are under construction. The government aims to complete the construction of 1 lakh houses in one year and 5 lakh houses in five years.
